Eaton & Moeller IZM Repair
Moeller-era IZM20, IZM26, IZM32 and IZM40 — built on the Masterpact M and just as obsolete — and Eaton's own IZMX16 and IZMX40. Repaired, rebuilt and injection-tested, with modern trip units engineered into the older frames.

The range
The Masterpact in Moeller clothing
The Moeller IZM20 to IZM40 series is a Merlin Gerin Masterpact M with Moeller badging and its own trip units. That matters for two reasons. The mechanism, contacts, coils and charging motor are Masterpact M parts, which means the donor stock and re-machining capability we hold for the M range applies directly. And the trip electronics are as obsolete as the STR units they replaced, so a dead trip unit on an IZM32 gets the same answer: a modern unit engineered into the original frame, set to the original characteristic, proved by injection test. The breaker stays in its cell — no adapter plate, no new cradle, no board project.
Eaton's later IZMX16 and IZMX40 are current and their faults are the everyday ones: coils, motor operators, contact wear, cradle clusters and PXR trip-unit connectors. All repaired in the workshop.
| IZM20 / 26 / 32 / 40 (Moeller) | Obsolete trip electronics, hardened mechanism grease, closing coil, charging motor; spares discontinued — repaired from Masterpact M donor stock and re-machined parts |
| IZMX16 / IZMX40 (Eaton) | Coils and motor operator, PXR connector faults, contact erosion on high-duty units, cradle cluster contacts |
| Cradles (all) | Cluster contact erosion and overheating, racking mechanism wear, position switches |
FAQs
Frequently asked
Eaton says the IZM32 is obsolete and quotes an IZMX retrofit. Is repair an option?
Yes, and usually the cheaper one. The IZM32 is a Masterpact M underneath; its mechanism and contacts are rebuilt from the same donor stock and re-machining we use for the M range, and a dead trip unit is replaced with a modern unit inside the original frame. An IZMX retrofit changes the cradle and the wiring — a board project rather than a breaker repair.
Can you fit a modern trip unit to an IZM26?
Yes. The unit is engineered into the frame, set to reproduce the original characteristic — or to the settings you specify — and injection-tested at those settings before dispatch. See protection unit replacement.
What about older Moeller and Klöckner-Moeller breakers?
Send the nameplate. Several of the older ranges are supportable from donor stock and re-machining; we'll tell you quickly whether yours is one of them. See obsolete circuit breaker repair.
